One of the Learning Stations can be where Learning Teams meet. Learning Teams are grouped together to read and discuss a common text. Students read the material independently and complete a role sheet to guide group discussions. Students typically choose the text they will read from a selection of choices provided by the teacher.
The use of Learning Teams has increased achievement and learning in reading comprehension, writing, and content areas such as Science and Social Studies. In addition, because they allow for choice, learning teams are highly motivating. Learning Teams provide students with the opportunity to strengthen their critical thinking skills which leads to a deeper understanding of what they have read. Support productive team conversation by providing clear guidelines for group discussions.
