SIA Course: Previewing Strategies

Why Preview? Copy

wilson-train-the-brain-iStock (1)The human brain is wired to make connections. As the brain interacts with new information, it seeks to find what it already knows about that information and to link it with existing information. A root cause of learning difficulty for many students is that they lack the background knowledge, vocabulary, and experiences necessary to make these critical connections.

Previewing addresses this root cause of difficulty by providing experiences that prepare students for learning during class lessons so they can better comprehend the instruction, allowing them to learn the knowledge and skills presented in the lesson. Previewing sets the stage for learning.
