13. Is that an Activating Strategy?

To clarify what Activating Strategies are, it may be helpful to understand what Activating Strategies are not. An announcement of what the lesson will be about, a list of new content, or the agenda on the board are not Activating Strategies. Activating Strategies are not just warm-up activities that review previous content. They are also not pop quizzes, homework checks, or silent work at the beginning of class periods. Activating Strategies are always connected to the Lesson Essential Question which should be related to the content to be learned.

Why are these types of activities not considered Activating Strategies?
