Current standards require students to “Write routinely over extended time frames (time for reflection and revision) and shorter time frames (a single sitting or a day or two) for a range of discipline-specific tasks, purposes, and audiences.” Assignments should be designed to give students opportunities in all content areas to compose multiple types of writing in a variety of time frames and for different audiences, tasks, and purposes.
