To be considered formative assessment, the results must be used to make adjustments in teaching and learning to ensure student success. The power of formative assessment is it can be used by teachers to make immediate adjustments in instruction before students are completely lost. Students too are key partners in the process and use feedback from formative assessments to become self-reflective about their learning and change their own learning approaches when needed.
